Match Tasks to Energy as a Solo Operator
Running a portfolio solo is an energy problem, not a time problem. Here is how to match tasks to energy so your best hours go to the work only you can do.
Stop scheduling by the clock and start scheduling by energy. When you run a portfolio alone, you do not run out of hours first. You run out of the specific kind of attention that hard decisions need. Two more hours at your desk at 4pm are not the same as two hours at 8am, and pretending they are is why so many solo operators feel busy and still fall behind on the work that matters.

Why energy, not time, is the real constraint

Attention is not uniform. There is a kind you use to write something true, decide a bet, or debug a subtle problem. There is a lesser kind that handles email, approvals, and calls. How do you match tasks to energy?
Sort your work into two piles. Peak work is anything that is generative, high-judgment, or irreversible: strategy, the last edit on customer-facing output, hard technical decisions, key relationships. Trough work is everything reversible and mechanical: triage, approvals, routine reviews, scheduling.
Then protect the peak. My first block of the day goes to one company and one hard thing, before any inbox. I wrote about that in the first hour of every build day. Nothing reactive touches that hour. If I lose that hour, I lose the day's real output even if I stay busy until midnight.
Push trough work into your trough. The afternoon slump is not a problem to fix with caffeine. It is when you should be approving agent proposals, clearing the inbox, and doing the low-stakes reviews. Those tasks are tolerant of a tired brain. Save them for one.

Batch shallow work so it does not leak into deep windows. And treat sleep and exercise as inputs to peak attention, not indulgences you earn after work, because a bad night shrinks the only resource that runs the whole thing.
The operators who burn out are usually the ones who scheduled by time, filled every hour, and spent their best attention on their cheapest work without noticing.
